Get help with ExpiryNotifier

Most problems come down to a device setting. The common ones are below. If none of them fit, send a request from inside the app.

How to contact support

From inside the app. Settings has a Contact Support entry that sends your message with a screenshot if you want to include one, and gives you a reference number.

  1. Open Settings in the app.
  2. Choose Contact Support.
  3. Enter your email, pick a category, and write a subject and message. Your name is optional, and the form can fill your name and email in from your profile.
  4. Attach one screenshot if it helps. JPEG, PNG, and WebP are accepted, up to 2 MiB.
  5. Send. A reference number appears once the request has been accepted.

The app also sends its version, your platform and operating system version, your device model where the system reports one, and your locale, so you do not have to look any of that up. Support requests go to a service separate from your account, and your account identifier is not included. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is sent.

There is no support email address yet

No monitored mailbox has been published, so the in-app form is the only route that actually reaches anyone. An address will appear here once one exists and somebody is reading it.

Why there is no form on this page

A form here would need to post to the same support service the app uses, and that has not been checked for browser traffic. Before one is added, the following need confirming: whether the service accepts requests from this website at all, how it handles spam and repeated submissions from anonymous visitors, what people are told about data collection at the point of sending, what limits apply to request size and frequency, how long submissions are kept, and who operates and monitors it. The app working is not evidence that any of that holds for a web page, so nothing is connected until it has been verified.

Common problems

  • A reminder did not appear

Reminders are scheduled by your device, so they depend on your device settings rather than on a server.

    • Check that notifications are allowed for ExpiryNotifier in your device settings.
    • On Android, check that the reminder notification channel is switched on. A channel can be disabled even when notifications are allowed overall.
    • Open the app. It checks notification access on startup and when you return to it, and explains what is wrong with a link to the right settings screen.
    • Confirm the reminder time you set is in the future. The app refuses a reminder in the past when you save an item.
  • Reminders arrive late on Android

Android 12 and later can delay scheduled work to save battery unless an app is allowed to use exact alarms.

    • Open your device settings for ExpiryNotifier and look for alarms and reminders, sometimes listed under special app access.
    • Allow the app to set exact alarms.
    • Battery optimisation set to strict for the app can also delay notifications. Relaxing it for ExpiryNotifier usually helps.
  • The app cannot open the camera or my photos

Camera and photo library access are requested the first time you use each one, and the app keeps working if you decline.

    • When you attach a photo, choose Camera or Gallery and allow the permission your device asks for.
    • If you declined earlier, the system will not ask again. Grant it from your device settings for ExpiryNotifier instead.
    • Only still images are used. The picker is restricted to images, and only the one you pick is read.
  • I cannot get into my account

What to do depends on whether you registered or started as a guest.

    • Registered accounts: choose Forgot Password on the sign in screen and enter your email. A reset email is sent if an account exists for that address.
    • Guest accounts: a guest account exists only on the installation that created it. If the app was removed or the device was reset, that account cannot be recovered, because nothing identifies it.
    • To avoid that, open Settings while signed in as a guest and use Secure Your Account to add an email and password. Your existing items stay with the same account.
  • A report will not generate, or a file will not open

Generating a report reads your full set of items, so it needs a connection. Opening an existing file does not.

    • If generation fails, check your connection and try again. The app reads your items in batches each time rather than reusing what is on screen.
    • If an exported file will not open, you may not have an app installed that can read that format. Try a different format, or install a PDF reader or spreadsheet app.
    • Exported files live in the app’s own folder on your device. If you deleted one, Recent Reports offers to generate it again from the filters it remembers.
  • I want to delete my account and data

Deletion is permanent and can be started from Settings inside the app.

    • Open Settings, then the Account section, then Delete Account.
    • There is a separate page explaining exactly what is removed, what stays on your device, and how to request deletion if you no longer have the app installed.

What to include in a request

What you expected to happen, what happened instead, and where in the app you were.

If it involves a specific item or report, say which one. If a reminder did not arrive, say what time you set and when you noticed. A screenshot of the screen where it went wrong is usually worth more than a description of it. Please do not include your password in a support message. Nobody will ask you for it.
